16th June 2009

Success for Sally Taylor at The Great Tew British Eventing Horse Trials 2009.

Sally is a locally based event rider pictured here with her last minute ride Mullarkey who came a creditable 2nd place in the hotly contested BE100 Section C on Saturday 13th June. Hook Norton Brewery who sponsored two fences at the event have for the last two years been sponsoring Sally and what a credit she has been.

Her lorry, horses, grooms and indeed mother were all adorned with branded rugs, t-shirts, cooking aprons and umbrellas. Sunshine prevailed and soon the day turned very hot, not only for the horses competing in the beautiful rolling parkland of the Great Tew estate, but for the spectators also.

Refreshment was on hand at the bar, also sponsored by Hook Norton Brewery, a place to enjoy a beer or pimms whilst sitting under a cooling umbrella to watch the showjumping. In its fifth year of running, Charles Etherington-Smith, a highly accredited course designer did not disappoint, the undulating course meant a fit horse was needed and the mix of fences kept the older horses tested but were sufficiently inviting for the more novice of horses and riders.

The Hook Norton Brewery Dray Horses are a firm favourite with the spectators and have an enthusiastic following at every event they attend. Their driver Roger Hughes spends the day talking to people about the horses and their everyday jobs which include delivering beer and supplies to our local pubs in and around the village of Hook Norton.

There are three horses in total which you can arrange to meet at the Brewery, or keep an eye out for them at local events throughout Oxfordshire for your chance to meet them.

Sally receiving her 2nd place rosetteThe day was rounded off by Sally receiving her 2nd place rosette, numnah and headcollar, followed by a wonderful spread of cakes and sandwiches back at Sally’s lorry, (pictured above), kindly produced by her mother Margie and father John; enough food to feed a small army. Many thanks!
