Hook Norton clicks for Cath Harries
Travel photographer Cath Harries visited the Hook Norton brewery to photograph the brewing process. The brewery will feature in The Book of Beer, which is being published in September by Dorling Kindersley.

According to the books managing editor and author Tim Hampson the village of Hook Norton in north Oxfordshire is the perfect base for any visitor exploring the Cotswolds, the city of Oxford or Stratford on Avon in Warwickshire. For the traveller three of the village’s pubs – the Sun, Pear Tree and Gate Hangs High – all offer accommodation.
However, for any beer lover, the highlight has to be the Hook Norton Brewery run by the fifth generation of the family who founded it.
Cath Harries said: "Visiting the Hook Norton brewery was a fantastic experience.I hadn’t realised what a tactile, aural and visual experience making beer was. Everyone just seemed to be working so hard.” And what was Cath’s favourite beer? “I really enjoyed the Hooky Gold,” she said.
Tours of the brewery can be arranged but they must be booked beforehand. The tour lasts two hours. It consists of a trip around the brewery and village museum, and is followed by a beer sampling.
